MoECC Seized Five Falcons at Hamad International Airport

Doha, Qatar — In a decisive move to protect endangered species, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has intercepted five falcons at Hamad International Airport.
The birds were seized after it was determined that their entry did not comply with Qatar’s strict legal regulations governing the import of wildlife.

The operation, led by the Wildlife Development Department, is part of a broader initiative to enforce Law No. (5) of 2006, which regulates the trade in endangered species and their products.

This law is a cornerstone of Qatar’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and the prevention of illegal wildlife trafficking.

Officials from the MoECC emphasized that such actions are crucial in safeguarding Qatar’s natural heritage and upholding international agreements on the protection of endangered species.
The Ministry reiterated its dedication to monitoring and controlling the movement of wildlife at all entry points, ensuring that only legally documented and healthy animals are allowed into the country.
The seized falcons are currently under the care of the relevant authorities, who will determine their fate in accordance with national and international guidelines.
The MoECC also called on the public and travelers to adhere strictly to wildlife regulations, highlighting that violations will be met with firm action.
This latest seizure underscores Qatar’s proactive stance in wildlife protection and its ongoing efforts to combat the illegal trade of endangered species.
