Qatar Designates 205 Mosques for Itikaf During Last Ten Days of Ramadan

As the holy month of Ramadan progresses, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has announced the designation of 205 mosques across Qatar for Itikaf during the final ten days of Ramadan 1446 AH.

This annual practice allows Muslims to seclude themselves in mosques for worship, reflection, and spiritual contemplation during this sacred time.

Itikaf, a significant tradition in Islam, involves dedicating oneself to prayer, Quran recitation, and remembrance of Allah within the confines of a mosque. Believers seek to deepen their connection with the divine and increase their devotion during these last ten days, which are believed to hold immense blessings and the possibility of witnessing Laylat Al-Qadr (the Night of Power).

Awqaf has urged those planning to observe Itikaf to study its religious guidelines to ensure they adhere to the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) teachings in a way that is both permissible and spiritually fulfilling.

Selection Criteria and Guidelines

The selection of the 205 mosques was based on several factors, ensuring accessibility and suitability for worshippers. Geographical distribution was a key consideration, ensuring that mosques were available across various regions of Qatar.

The selected mosques also had to be well-established congregational centers with adequate facilities to comfortably accommodate those performing Itikaf.

Awqaf has issued specific guidelines for those participating in Itikaf:

  • Age Restrictions: Participants must be at least 18 years old. Individuals between 8 and 18 years old may participate if accompanied by a guardian.
  • Hygiene and Cleanliness: Maintaining personal hygiene and cleanliness within the designated Itikaf areas is essential.
  • Respect for Mosque Property: Worshippers are expected to respect mosque property and refrain from any actions that could disturb others, such as loud conversations.
  • Prohibited Activities: Hanging clothes on walls, columns, or other mosque structures is strictly prohibited to maintain the sanctity and appearance of the mosques.
  • Designated Areas: Sleeping and eating are restricted to designated areas determined by the Mosque Administration.
  • Women’s Participation: Itikaf for women in mosques is not permitted.

Ensuring a Spiritual Environment

The Ministry’s guidelines underscore the importance of maintaining a serene and respectful environment within the mosques.

By adhering to these rules, worshippers can maximize their spiritual experience during Itikaf and focus on deepening their faith.

Awqaf’s designation of these mosques reflects its commitment to facilitating religious practices and providing a supportive environment for Muslims in Qatar to observe Ramadan with devotion and reverence.

As the last ten days of Ramadan approach, these 205 mosques will become havens for spiritual reflection and intensified worship.
