Many 17-year-olds are eagerly waiting to register for their driving licenses, turning the process into a friendly competition. Twins Rhea and Rohan Nihalani, who recently turned 17, are particularly enthusiastic.

They plan to race to be the first to secure their permits, with Rhea dreaming of driving herself to the beach and school.

Another teen, Amaan Mohiddina, who will turn 17 in April, views driving as a step towards independence and responsibility.

He expressed his desire to help his parents and drive his younger sister to school, highlighting the importance of discipline and awareness while driving.

Driving schools are experiencing a surge in inquiries regarding the new law, although they await further details from Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA).

Fatima Raees, from Emirates Driving Institute, mentioned that while the procedure for obtaining a license remains the same, 17-and-a-half-year-olds can begin taking lessons, with licenses issued only after they turn 18.

As the countdown begins, many young hopefuls look forward to the freedom and independence that comes with driving.
