Sultan Darwish, Director of Consumer Protection and Commercial Control at the ministry, noted a significant influx of food items into UAE markets, with daily imports reaching 15,000 tonnes at Al Aweer Fruits and Vegetables Market in Dubai and 6,000 tonnes from Abu Dhabi traders.

This is aimed at ensuring adequate food supplies during the peak Ramadan period.

The ministry is committed to preventing supermarkets from raising the prices of nine essential products, including cooking oils, eggs, and dairy, without prior approval. They plan to conduct 420 inspections throughout Ramadan.

Additionally, the ministry has coordinated with local consumer protection authorities for further inspections. In the first two months of 2024, they carried out 768 inspection campaigns.

They remain vigilant through an electronic link with 14 major outlets to monitor any price changes on essential products, flagging discrepancies in real-time.
