Qatar to Host new FIFA World Cup from 2025 to 2029

Qatar is set to host its third global FIFA tournament after the FIFA Council granted the Gulf nation multi-year hosting rights for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
As the first Arab country to host a FIFA World Cup™ in 2022, Qatar will now welcome FIFA’s expanded 48-team men’s youth tournament annually from 2025 to 2029. Similarly, Morocco will host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup™ during the same five-year span.

The expansion of participating nations was announced last year by FIFA President Gianni Infantino as part of FIFA’s strategic vision. The innovative approach of awarding the FIFA U-17 World Cup to a single country for five years builds on this rationale.

With the increased frequency of the tournament and a greater number of teams eligible to qualify, more young talents will have the chance to showcase their skills and compete against the world’s best in their age group.

The extended hosting period enables countries to optimize existing football facilities and make better use of infrastructure such as transportation and accommodation.
This continuity allows organizational structures to remain stable from one tournament to the next, providing staff with valuable experience, enhancing efficiency, and reducing costs, while ensuring improved delivery year after year.
“Qatar hosted the best-ever FIFA World Cup in 2022, welcoming the world to the first FIFA World Cup held in an Arab nation. I am thrilled to see a FIFA tournament returning there, utilizing the fantastic facilities that showcased some of the world’s top footballers,” said the FIFA President.

“Qatar has proven to be an exceptional host, and with their unparalleled hospitality and existing infrastructure, they will provide the ideal conditions for the planet’s top talents to shine.”
Having hosted the AFC Asian Cup three times, including the most recent edition in 2023, Qatar will shape the future of the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The tournament will evolve from a traditional stadium-based model to a festival of football, offering a fresh perspective on a competition that has served as a valuable platform for many of the game’s biggest stars.
