UAE Launches High-Speed Train to Connect Dubai and Abu Dhabi in Just 30 Minutes

Etihad Rail has officially announced the introduction of a high-speed, all-electric passenger train that will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

This innovative transport solution is expected to reduce travel time between the two emirates to a mere 30 minutes.

With a top speed of 350 km/h, the high-speed train will make stops at six key locations including Reem Island, Saadiyat, Yas Island, Zayed International Airport, and areas near Al Maktoum International Airport and Al Jaddaf in Dubai.

During a media briefing in Abu Dhabi, Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, indicated that the construction of the train and its associated infrastructure will commence following the completion of tenders. However, a timeline for the project’s completion has not yet been established.

This high-speed train initiative is projected to contribute approximately Dh145 billion to the UAE’s GDP over the next 50 years.

In addition to the high-speed service, a regular passenger train will also be developed, designed to connect all the emirates and extend towards the border with Oman.

This train will travel at speeds of 200 km/h and accommodate up to 400 passengers. It will traverse notable routes, including Mezeira’a and the scenic Liwa Desert, with stations planned for Sharjah and Fujairah.

Although the regular passenger train is fully equipped, details on its operational launch remain undisclosed.
