Distributing iftar meals without the necessary permits is illegal in Dubai, with violators facing fines of up to Dh500,000.
Residents are prohibited from outsourcing restaurants for meal preparation and must follow guidelines set by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD).
To distribute meals legally, individuals and charities must apply for a free permit through the IACAD’s website. The application requires details such as the applicant’s name, Emirates ID, and meal distribution location. It typically takes 15 days to process the permit.
For those interested in setting up iftar tents, a separate permit is also required. Applicants must provide information about the number of meals, as well as details about any electrical needs from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
Legal alternatives for charitable giving include making in-kind or financial donations to licensed charities, distributing food to local families, and placing water boxes in mosques.
These initiatives allow residents to contribute meaningfully while complying with local laws.
