Dubai’s Aviation Sector Set to Create 185,000 New Jobs by 2030

According to a recent report from Emirates Group and Dubai Airports, Dubai’s aviation sector is projected to generate 185,000 new jobs by 2030, bringing the total number of people working in aviation-related roles to 816,000.

This data was compiled by Oxford Economics, highlighting the sector’s significant impact on the city’s economy.

As of the end of 2023, approximately 631,000 individuals are employed in aviation-related jobs, representing one in five jobs in Dubai. By 2030, this figure is expected to rise to one in four jobs.

Job Breakdown

The current employment figures show:

  • 303,000 jobs supported by the sector’s core economic impact.
  • 329,000 jobs supported through aviation-facilitated tourism.

Specifically, the core impact includes 103,000 direct jobs in the aviation sector and 200,000 jobs linked to supply chain spending and employee consumption. Last year, these direct employees earned a total of Dh23 billion in wages.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, expressed optimism about future growth, stating, “Our growth plans will generate even more skilled jobs.”

Recovery and Expansion Post-Pandemic

The aviation sector in Dubai has rebounded strongly since the Covid-19 pandemic, playing a crucial role in the city’s growth over the past four years. Both Emirates and flydubai have significantly expanded their workforces as they reopened new destinations.

Al Maktoum International Airport

The upcoming Al Maktoum International Airport is expected to be a major catalyst for job creation in the aviation sector. Once fully operational, it will be the largest airport in the world.

The expansion of Dubai World Central is projected to contribute Dh6.1 billion to Dubai’s GDP by 2030, accounting for 1% of the city’s GDP, and will generate 132,000 jobs, equating to 3.7% of Dubai’s employment that year.

Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the importance of this development: “Our ambitious plans for Dubai World Central will unlock further economic opportunities by supporting the projected demand for air transport.”

Direct Employment Growth

By 2030, Emirates, Dubai Airports, and other aviation entities are expected to create nearly 24,000 direct new jobs, increasing their total employment from 103,000 in 2023 to 127,000.

Emirates currently employs 81,000 people, with projections suggesting this will rise to 104,000 by 2030. Meanwhile, Dubai Airports and related entities will grow from 21,000 to 23,000 employees.

Indirect Employment

Emirates currently supports 106,000 indirect jobs, which is expected to grow to 135,000 by 2030. Similarly, Dubai Airports and other aviation entities will support 48,000 jobs by that year, up from 33,000 last year.

Overall, Emirates is projected to contribute 413,000 jobs, or one in every eight jobs in Dubai. Jobs supported by Dubai Airports and other aviation entities are expected to rise from 67,000 to 87,000 by 2030.

The total number of jobs supported across the aviation sector is set to increase from 396,000 to 516,000, showcasing the industry’s pivotal role in Dubai’s economic landscape.
