Venue Highlights
Dubai International Stadium (DIS)
Opened in 2009, the Dubai International Stadium is the newer of the two venues, boasting a capacity of 25,000. Its inaugural international match featured Pakistan against Australia in April 2009, showcasing players like Shahid Afridi.
The stadium hosted its first women’s ODI in February 2019, with Pakistan facing West Indies, and its first women’s T20 international in September 2023, when the UAE played Namibia.
During the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, DIS hosted 13 matches, including the final where Australia claimed their first title by defeating New Zealand. Noteworthy matches include Pakistan’s 10-wicket victory over India and the West Indies’ record low of 55 all out against England.
For the Women’s T20 World Cup, the Dubai International Stadium will host 12 matches, including the final and one semi-final. Key clashes include the India vs. Pakistan match and the Group B finale between England and West Indies.
Sharjah Cricket Stadium
Since its opening in 1982, Sharjah Cricket Stadium has hosted over 200 ODIs, starting with a match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in April 1984. Known for its rich cricketing history, it holds a Guinness World Record for hosting the most ODIs.
With a capacity of 16,000, the stadium is particularly popular among South Asian teams, drawing large crowds from the local expatriate community. The first women’s ODI at Sharjah occurred on January 9, 2015, featuring Pakistan and Sri Lanka, followed by the first women’s T20 international just six days later.
Sharjah was one of four venues during the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, hosting 11 group-stage matches. In 2023, the West Stand was renamed in honor of Sachin Tendulkar on his 50th birthday, commemorating his memorable innings during the 1998 Coca-Cola Cup final against Australia.
During the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, Sharjah will host 11 matches, including the second semi-final on October 18. Notable encounters include the Group A clash between India and Australia as well as England’s meeting with South Africa in Group B.
